LESS THAN 10 SLOTS LEFT AT CURRENT PRICE
That's right, we expect to sell out of the current price point within a few hours, so jump over now to lindyfocus.com and sign up!

LIVE MUSIC ANNOUNCED
We are thrilled to announce that we will be hosting two of our very favorite dance bands for this year's event: Tuba Skinny from New Orleans, and Seattle's Glenn Crytzer and his Syncopators! They will each play shows on separate nights of camp, and come together for an unforgettable combined set for our New Year's party! Of course that's not all the live music awesomeness we'll have, so stay tuned for more announcements as we get closer to camp...

TUBA SKINNY
Tuba Skinny is a band that takes its listeners back in time to the jazz and blues music of the nineteen twenties and thirties. The members have been playing together since April 2009. Tuba Skinny plays traditional Dixieland Jazz and Old Blues songs. They're cousins of Loose Marbles and Baby Soda in NYC. These groups have interchangeable players and it is a joy to witness these youngsters spreading the word about the New Orleans music.

GLENN CRYTZER AND HIS SYNCOPATORS
Glenn Crytzer and his Syncopators is a jazz band dedicated to the popular music of the 1920's, 1930's and early 1940's. Founded in 2007 by band leader Glenn Crytzer, the group has become a favorite among dancers around the country. The group's repertoire includes songs and arrangements by Benny Goodman, Fats Waller, John Kirby, Jelly Roll Morton, and more, as well as new original tunes composed in the vintage style. The Syncopators have been featured at Camp Jitterbug, the Seattle Lindy Exchange, Hot Mess, the Emerald City Blues Festival, the Savoy Swing Jam, the Century Ballroom Masters of Lindy Hop and Tap, Harlem Nights, and the Killer Diller Ball, and is the house band at Seattle's Historic Century Ballroom.

More coming soon...

Visit us and learn more at www.lindyfocus.com!

(Please go see the video of their performance at Frankie95 on the video section of the website). The weekend will also feature 3 nights of dance parties with phenomenal gypsy/hot jazz bands such as Lower East Side Hot Club, Grand Street Stompers, and Baby Soda Jazz Band. come visit Big Apple and plan to dance your soul away!

The registrations are coming in fast. Please register soon and submit your payment to secure your spot!

http://www.facebook.com/l/ec860jEVoCpofUdBSMKFhrafQ9w;https://sites.google.com/site/gypsyjamweekend

Instructors
ALICE MEI (Montpellier, France)

Alice started dancing at the age of 4. After 10 years of studying Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz dance daily, she tried out other styles of dancing such as african dancing and flamenco when she eventually met her true love, Lindy Hop! Ever since she has since been touring and teaching full time living the adventurous Lindy-Lifestyle. Alice is definitely at her happiest when she is swingin’ it on the dance-floor. You will most likely hear her giggling from the other side of the room when she is social dancing. Alice enjoys keeping her dancing simple and natural. It seems like her silliness has reached enough people since she won the “dancers choice award” in 2006 and the "competitor choice award" in 2008 at ULHS. She has won several titles in prestigious competitions such as ULHS and ALHC. In class, she teaches the same principles that she cherishes as a dancer and she mainly focuses on keeping things simple and in rhythm. Alice is a member of the Ninjammerz with which she performs and competes regularly. http://www.facebook.com/l/ec860O2NPi9qpdN8bg7hr3nBceQ;www.alicemei.com / http://www.facebook.com/l/ec860hckPg4-TBwVzhQjalfMLiw;www.ninjammerz.com

THOMAS BLACHARZ (Montpellier, France)

Without a doubt, Tommy Blacharz is one of the most talented dancers in the world. His unique style is defined by free form body movement and intricate musicality and he is constantly pushing the limits of swing as we know it. With over 12 years of dance experience, Tommy not only exudes expertise on the social dance floor, but he can clearly articulate the various element that make up his dancing. His classes are filled with fun, humor, good dance technique and most of all great dancing. His talents have been passed on to some of the top dancers in the world today and he is a major organizer/teacher in one of the strongest dance scenes in Europe, Montpellier, France.Recently Tommy took 1st place in ULHS Slow Division 2007, 2nd place ILHC Classic Division 2009, and is a key member of the Ninjammerz Team who performed their jitters choreography at Frankie95 in New York City. If you haven’t already had the chance to let this man inspire you, it is one opportunity you would never want to miss!

Dance Information
Dance Only Package is also available here. Only $40 for three nights of dancing!!
http://www.facebook.com/l/ec860Zt4epUIYjYPsuIufP8xWeg;https://sites.google.com/site/gypsyjamweekend/dance-party-tickets

On Friday September 3rd , we will open the weekend with one and only LOWER EAST SIDE HOT CLUB!! Be ready to be blown away with their intensely beautiful gypsy jazz music.
On Saturday September 4th let GRAND ST. STOMPERS take you to the streets of New Orleans! (hosted by Swing Remix). The band leader, Gordon Au, says they may throw some Django tunes for us!!
On Sunday September 5th, our final dance party will feature one of our favorites, the Baby Soda Jazz Band!! (hosted by Avalon Jazz Productions). Their tight swinging music will keep your feet tapping. Strictly Lindy competition is planned! More info coming soon!
Thank you and look forward to seeing you at Gypsy Jam Weekend!!
For questions, e-mail at triplesteps@gmail.com

Posted on behalf of Ramona Staffeld:

Greetings Friends!

I am happy to announce that I will be teaching a Lindy Hop workshop in Ithaca, NY on Saturday the 7th of August (next weekend).

Location: Studio Two-Thirteen – air conditioned!!

213 N Aurora St, Ithaca, NY 14850
http://studiotwothirteen.com/
Streetview: http://www.cs.cornell.edu/~ashieh/studio-213.jpg

Cost: $20 per 1:15 hour workshop.

*** Classes ***

Lindy Hop Continued 11 AM to 12:15 PM

We will start the day by working on leading and responding to the difference between 6 count and 8 count patterns. Our goal will be eliminate the question for followers and demonstrate clarity and choice for leads. Many new doors open when we go from thinking of the dance as patterns to feeling the dance in terms of fast and slow weight changes and the rate of movement. All levels are welcome and encouraged to attend this class, including beginner dancers who are new to partnering.

Swing It out! 1 to 2:15 PM

This class will be all about my favorite move, the swing out. :) With hopes of picking up from the morning class, we will start by making sure it feels great and then we'll talk styling. In addition, leaders will learn to clearly lead a forward, backward, and sideways swing out, and followers will work on their response to the differences in feeling. All levels are welcome, although dancers must have taken at least one swing out class.

Fun Moves 2:30 to 3:30 PM

You got it, fun moves coming your way! Now that you've worked on the basic a bit, let's talk about the Texas Tommy, some fun things to do from side by side, and making sure the dance is a conversation that includes the followers dancing. We will also working on leading and following fun rhythms. All levels are welcome, although again, dancers must have had some experience with the Lindy Hop basics.

 IT'S LINDY FOCUS REGISTRATION TIME!
Alright, guys - Registration opens July 8th at 9pm EST. As always, the first few batches of registrants save good money. Last year we sold over 50 slots in under 3 minutes, and we expect this year to be just as competitive! To help with this, we strongly recommend creating an account ahead of time (last year's account will still work, or you could also use your Southern Belle account if you registered for that event.)

IMPROVED REGISTRATION SYSTEM
In addition to the servers hopefully not crashing this year due to excessive traffic, we've improved the system itself so that you don't need to RUSH to fill out your registration. Once you begin the registration process and choose a pass-type, you've got it reserved for you until you finish filling out the form (unless you quit your browser or your computer explodes).

CLASS RECAPS ON IDANCE.NET
All of the class recaps from the last two years of Lindy Focus are now available for FREE on iDance.net! Refresh your memory or check them out for the first time: http://www.idance.net/collections/list.php?id=2

NEW LINDY FOCUS TRAILER (1/3) 'A VINTAGE CABARET'
This first installment of highlights from last year's event features the many performances enjoyed by last year's attendees, including the amazing Red Hot Rhythm Review on New Year's Eve.
Check out the new trailer: http://www.lindyfocus.com/
Check out all the performance videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/jazzartonline

GET CONNECTED WITH US!
If you're getting this message at all, your connected with us in some way - but are you connected with other attendees? Do you get real-time updates to event news and special announcements during the event? Do you remember your account info from last year's registration? If the answer to any of these questions is 'no', then it's time to get connected.
Follow us on Twitter: http://twitter.com/lindyfocus
Join our Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5600678199&ref=ts
To create/retrieve your Lindy Focus account, go to our home page and click 'log in'.

MORE UPDATES COMING SOON
So- who's teaching at Lindy Focus anyway? What will the classes be like?? We really value your comments and hope that you take a few minutes to fill out our anonymous, 10-question form. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/JKLQPKV

We have something for you too! It was very inspiring to us (and we hope to you!) to hear all of the references to old dance clips and dancers. Sharon has done us all a huge favor and posted her references to her blog! Check it out here and stay inspired! http://www.sharondavis.com.au/?p=962

Thank you to each and every attendee for recognizing the value of solo movement and supporting our efforts to preserve and evolve this dance form, all of our volunteers for taking time away from dancing and classes to help us run the event smoothly, the locals who hosted out-of-town dancers, the musicians for keeping us dancing even when we’ve sweat through our clothes, and, of course, our instructors! Mike, Sharon, Juan and Bethany made this a truly unique and inspiring event.

We hope you’ll all come back and visit us for our 13th Steven and Virginie workshop, November 5-7, 2010.

With love and sore legs,
Team Stompo
Mike, Alex, Beth, Michelle, Jesse, Ross and Rebecca

In past messages we've highlighted the classes, instructors, music and dance parties, but there is so much more! Beantown has a great social atmosphere, with most campers living and eating together on campus. The dining hall has been newly transformed with a wide variety of seating nooks, plus the food is excellent! The BBQ on Monday night is at the Misselwood Tent down by the beach, followed by volleyball, frisbee, walks on the shore, maybe some jamming, or just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful setting. Each night Beantown Cafe is open, directly adjacent to the main dance floor. You can take a break, get a snack, play some pool or just hang out. The Endicott Pub is open 2 nights, a big hit last year:-) The open practice each day is the place to go to meet up with classmates and go over some of what you learned in class.

The most exciting addition this year is "The Show" on Sunday night in the new state-of-the-art Rose Performance Hall. Confirmed performers include Norma Miller, Ryan Francois, Jenny Thomas, Michael Jagger, Evita Arce, Ramona Staffeld, Peter Strom, Naomi Uyama, Skye Humphries, Zack Richard, Maryse Lebeau, Mike Roberts, Laura Glaess, Andrew Thigpen, Karen Turman, Patrick Schmidt, Natasha Ouimet and Dave Lasagna as emcee. That is one amazing line-up! You are not going to want to miss this for sure!

The entertainment does not stop there! More instructor performances will be during the Saturday night dance party.

That's not all! You can participate in the Northeast Lindy Hop Championships on Friday and Saturday nights. Competitions include Strictly, 3 levels of J&J and Solo Charleston. Tuesday night will have another round of Beantown's Got Talent, the place to be for a lot of great laughs:-) Bring your props, instruments, ideas or whatever else you need to display your talent for our panel of "judges". All in good fun!

Only about three weeks until opening day! Spaces are still available. If you have not yet signed up and would like to join in, please register ASAP. We currently could use more leaders, especially for tracks 1 and 3 and followers for track 5. If you have friends who might be interested, please let them know.

Beantown runs from June 24 to July 1, back at the beautiful Endicott College campus in Beverly, MA. Beantown Camp is coming up before you know it! We've highlighted the incredible teaching staff and vast array of classes and thought we'd turn to the music!

Four nights of live music will be starting off Friday with the Cangelosi Cards from NYC. We've been fortunate to have them in Boston and Providence, but this will be their first Beantown appearance! Their specialty is early American Jazz and will be sure to get everyone in the camp groove.

The Saturday night dance party features an expanded version of the Mike DiBari Swingtet. Mike is the guy with the swingin' guitar, often seen with many of our great local dance bands besides his own. Featured on vocals will be Ed Scheer, one of Boston's most dynamic and talented singers. We are looking forward to something special just for Beantown!

Sunday night features The Racky Thomas Band, one of the most fun and energetic bands around. These guys know how to swing the Blues! They always keep the floor hoppin' and you just can't help but want to dance.

To close out a full week of Beantown at the Wednesday dance party will be none other than Gordon Webster & Friends from NYC! Gordon is well loved in the Boston area and these days his popularity is growing in leaps and bounds, spreading out to Europe. The wonderfully talented Naomi Uyama will be featured on vocals. If you have not heard the combination of Naomi and Gordon, you will be in for an amazing treat!

Check out the website for more info on the bands:
http://www.beantowncamp.com/bands

In addition to all the wonderful live music, the evenings will be featuring an excellent selection of DJs from around the country. Head DJ Michael Gamble has been a big help with bringing in some new faces to the line up and we know we are in for a week of great dancing! DJs include Mary Freitag from California, Mike Thibealt from NY, Dan Newsome from Seattle, Marc-Andre Vachon from Montreal, Wil Reed from Connecticut and Alex Abdoulaev from right here in Massachusetts. Plus there's more! Peter Strom will be hosting a late night Soul Party, Boston area Blues Cafe will be hosting a late night Blues party and Tara Weinstein will be hosting the open practices.

For more info about the DJs:
http://www.beantowncamp.com/staff/djs

Beantown Camp is about one month away and there is still time to register! Camp is currently open for everyone although we would like to get more leaders, especially for Tracks 1 and 3, and more followers for Track 5.

Beantown runs from June 24 to July 1, back at the beautiful Endicott College campus in Beverly, MA. There are multiple packages and time periods to choose from for attending. You can find all of the details and latest information on the Beantown web site:
http://www.beantowncamp.com/

Don't miss out on this phenomenal gathering of dancers, instructors, DJs and musicians! As of today, dancers are attending from 33 states and 7 countries. There are classes for all levels of experience, including beginners. Beautiful campus, dances, classes, competitions and many other fun activities planned. It is going to be awesome!

Happy dancing,
Aurelie & Tony

Facebook users can "Like" any of our pages:
http://www.beantowncamp.com/facebook
